The Kansas Cycling Association held their annual banquet on January 22nd in Lawrence. Photos from Roger Harrison here. The KCA will post regular updates to the 2017 Schedule. Local cyclocross is finished for the season, but with the World Championships in Luxembourg coming up at the end of the month expect a watch party hosted by Localcycling.com The Big Grin Memorial Ride scheduled for Sunday 1/15 has been postponed for two weeks. Some pretty nasty icy roads are expected for the original date.

The final race of the local cyclocross season was a ‘do-over’ of the previous Wednesday’s course at Herman Laird. Daytime temps, visibility and dry ground made for fast lap times. Lots of junior age racers showed up for the only night race of the local season. Mild temperatures and mostly dry ground made this a different course than previous years. Most of the expected rain held off leaving a slightly tacky course. Strong head winds on the long straights made this a tactical race. The Leawood Park training course with the addition of some new woods mixes ‘heavy’ grass with twisty technical (and a little pavement for relief).
