Road Season 2022 Begins

In an earlier article we discussed whether road racing in our region still has a heartbeat. It does.

The first road event of the season, week one of the Tricombe Spring Fling, is scheduled for February 26th. The KCA calendar shows each Saturday through March 26th for the full series. Unfortunately there are no further details or flyer at the moment. Host club Revolution Racing, LLC indicates on their Facebook page that registration will open the week of February 7th.

The Perry Dam Race appears on the calendar for March 27th. Again, no further details.

The Bazaar Road Race is scheduled to return on April 10th.

The first road event we’ve found that has registration open is the Bruce Edwards Glenda Taylor Memorial Time Trial on Saturday April 23rd. A BikeReg search by state is helpful.

Down the road (yeah, pun) we note the Jesse Blancarte Time Trial on May 29th and the whimsical named A Very Peculiar Criterium on July 16th.

It’s a little off topic, but the Kansas State Track Championship at the Lawrence Grass Velodrome will be held on July 31st. This will be preceded by Tuesday Night Racing at the facility beginning May 31st.

What we don’t see yet? Road Race, Criterium, and Time Trial State Championships. We understand that there is work being done to move those events back onto the calendar.

The challenges of putting together a season of road racing are many (see our earlier article).
