Raffle For A Cause

Check out the details on the Cowtown Cyclocross Series raffle. Good Swag and a good cause:

This weekends Chris Cross will kick off the 2006 Cow Town Cyclocross Series.  Throughout the series, we will be selling raffle tickets for drawings to be held at each round.  At the final round a lucky winner will win a custom Badger Bicycle courtesy Rob Pennell. All proceeds from sales of the raffle tickets are being donated to the Diamond Blackfan Anemia Foundation (DBAF).  The DBAF is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to researching an extremely rare disease (DBA).  Because it receives no public attention or national appeal, the foundation is supported solely through donations by parents, friends and family of individuals with DBA.  To be successful, our raffle depends on donations from area businesses and organizations.  We invite you to be a part of this exciting event by donating merchandise, gift certificates or services to include in the raffle.

Some of the great companies already involved included: Badger Custom Bicycles, The Wheel Cyclery, Chamois Butt’R, Paceline, Jewel Cartoons, Garmin, Scott Bikes, Go Fast Sports, Corning Fiber, Hammer Nutrition, The City of Riverside, Friends of the Clinton Lake Trails, CycloOps, and The Lantern Rouge Volunteer Group.

Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA) is a rare bone marrow disease that prevents the body from producing life-sustaining red blood cells.  Unfortunately there is no cure at this time.  Treatment options include steroid administration or monthly blood transfusions.  Children who respond to steroids are faced with many dangerous side effects and complications including, but not limited to diabetes, cataracts, osteoporosis, suppression of growth, and muscle weakness. Transfusion-dependent patients require monthly blood transfusions and almost daily 12-hour infusions of medicine to control excess iron buildup that causes liver and heart damage.  The disease is so rare that it is estimated that only 15,000 people have been diagnosed worldwide… and one of them happens to live here in the Kansas City area.

Amelia Lamb is a happy-go-lucky two year old who has had to endure the affects of this horrible disease since she was two months old.  Her father is a member of the Cow Town Cycling team and is also well-known in the Kansas City cycling scene.  We hope that the money raised through this event will help bring their family closer to a CURE!

Please contact me today to make arrangements for your donations.  If you would like to learn more information about DBA, please visit the DBAF’s web site at www.dbafoundation.org.

Thank you in advance for your help and support.  Together, we will make significant strides in the fight against DBA!

Sincerely,
Chris Locke
