MTFGKC at DHHS Fitness Festival- July 29th

Hello all,
I hope you that all of you are doing well.
I would like to take a moment and invite you to the last planned event for MTFGKC in 2006.
There are a lot of folks out there who have been telling me all year long that they have been meaning to come out to our weekly Saturday group ride, to ride with us or just to make a donation. A lot of you have not made it yet, and I understand that people have other important things to do… so I want to let you know about a way and a time that you can finally come out and show your support for MTFGKC.

This Saturday, July 29th, the Major Taylor Foundtion of Greater of Kansas City will be participating in the Health and Fitness Festival down in the 18th & Vine area. This event was put together by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, which has recruited over 40 health and fitness related or community organizations, to provide activites, entertainment, health screenings, a 5k run (escorted by MTFGKC youth riders), dance instruction and more. Health and Human Services has kept MTFGKC at the forefront during all of these months of planning and we plan on making a good showing, and ask that you join us in that effort.
MTFGKC will have it’s own area blocked off, and will be conducting 5 outdoor spin classes, complete 8 state-of-the-art spin bikes, music and two qualified instructors, Brennan Shirk of Induro Cycling/Cadence Club (who has donated the spin bikes, music equipment and his time to MTFGKC), and Angela Green, an MTFGKC program facilitator, YMCA spin class instructor and Licenced Cycling Instructor with the League of American Bicyclists. We will also be conducting a cycling skills course, giving away helmets and will be doing minor cycling maintenence and repairs on bicycles that attendees bring in. We will also have on display some of our newest donations, new Specialized mountain bikes. I have also been asked to make a MTFGKC presentation on the main stage, at some point during the day.

Please come out this weekend and support the festival and MTFGKC. This is actually the last planned event for us this summer, besides our weekly group ride on Saturday mornings. I am asking that if you ride a bicycle, and have not had the opportunity to ride with us ,come out and meet us this at 11:30 am, this Saturday, at the Acme Bicycle Co., 412 E. 18th Street, ride to Cliff Drive and back with us… (we are thinking of grilling some hotdogs/chicken and having chips & drinks…hopefully none of you will mind making a donation to help us cover costs/or contribute to the further progress of MTFGKC ) and then pop over to the Fitness Festival, help us set up (we could use some help unloading some equipment and setting up our tent) and see what else it has to offer.
Even if you don’t ride with us that day, it would be so great to see you just come out and let me know that you approve of what we are doing.
If you would like to help out on this day, feel free to contact me either by email or phone…816 682-4191. Hope to see you this Saturday!!!!!!
Regards,
Kenneth Walker
