Kansas State Championships

Roger Lomshek sends this update: "Tailwind Cyclists and PSU Cycling will host all KS State Road Championship disciplines for 2006. Over $7000 in cash will be awarded with hundreds more in merchandise. As both a MAXXIS Midwest series and Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic Race Series event there will be point chasers from all over the four states competing in all categeories.

After much debate the KCA has decided master titles will be awarded in 5 year age groups. Junior titles are in two year age groups.

Famous for races designed for racers by racers with racers best interests at heart we continue that tradition in 2006.

To alleviate a hotel room shortage the weekend of the RR and Crit the Northeast High School in Arma (site of the RR) will be open from Friday at 5 PM until Sunday at 10 AM for all racers and family to sleep BAK style on the gym floor in air conditioned comfort. All the info can be found at the lodging page. http://www.tailwindcyclists.com/localevents/race/lodge.htm

All events will have a large law enforcement presence to ensure traffic control and safety with the TT and RR held on low traffic county roads and secondary highways.

The TT will pay out $1000 cash in the biggest payout in Kansas history. The famous “Tailwind Start House” will be used to launch riders onto the course. One rider last year compared it to “being loaded into a shotgun barrel”.

Thanks to Trek Bicycles our RR will have a staffed neutral feed zone with free bottles to hand up. As always anyone is welcome to have their own feeders in the feed zone as well.

Every category in the RR will have at least one dedicated wheel vehicle with the larger fields getting two wheel vehicles.

The criterium features the most technical course in the four state area. A wide open finishing stretch feeds into a serpentine back stretch before a small rise to the final corner.

Air conditioned showers and bathrooms will be open all day at both the RR and Crit for rider comfort.
