Grote Prijs Shawnee 2009

The last local cyclocross race of the 2008/2009 metro KC season is this weekend. Yes, cyclocross season spans from September to February in it's heartland (and maybe we're part of that heartland too?). This weekend's Grote Prijs Shawnee will be held at Herman Laird Park, also known as Old Shawnee Town. If you've never raced or watched a cyclocross event, this is an excellent opportunity. Expect a course with plenty of road, some twisty turny parts with mud, and a couple of runs. The Smokestack folks will be bringing some fine ale to sample and there will be a limited amount of free food. Come out with your cowbells.

The localcycling crew would like to mention that this has been a very complete and robust season with a variety of venues, styles of courses and weather conditions. We know the cyclocross community appreciates the hardwork put in by area promoters and sponsors. A quick recap of the year includes; a new race at Sar-Ko-Par in Lenexa (Diamond Blackfan). A first ever night race on a motorsport facility in Topeka(Gran Prix HPT). A classic course at Clinton Lake (Chris Cross). A weekend of Cups (Capital Cup in Topeka plus Boulevard Cup). A weekend of long and challenging courses at the lake (Smithville Cyclocross Festival). A preview of the hilly Nationals Course (Boss Cross 1). An all grass race in Leavenworth (Veterans Cross). An early State Championship on a cool cobbled venue (DeStad final). The first snow race of the year (Boss Cross 2). An epic four days at Tiffany Springs (USAC National Cyclocross Championships). The first mudfest of the year at English Landing (Boss Cross 3).  A Christmas week styled race ('Cross Out The Old Year). And a cold day in faux France at the Tuileries (Epic Holiday Cyclocross). Come join the fun for the finale: Grote Prijs Shawnee.
