Sending you this from Prattville, AL home of our ride leader Mike Munk. The last few days have been fairly similar terrain-wise. Lots of rolling hills and ridge running roads. Good weather and moderate temps.Today’s ride featured almost 6000′ of climbing but nothing longer than half 3/4 of a mile.
Thought I’d give you a taste of our daily routine. It goes something like this… 0530 wake up, put on sunscreen while watching The Weather Channel to see what the day holds. Get dressed in cycling clothes. 0600 go to breakfast and proceed to inhale eggs, pancakes/french toast, OJ, coffee for most, oatmeal etc. asmuch as your stomach can hold.
0700 load luggage trailer and sign-in. 0710 roll out of hotel parking lot on the days ride. Ride for 2-2 1/2 hours to first SAG ( support and gear). Upon arrival remove gloves and wash hands, sign in on roster. Refill bottles, apply more sunscreen as needed, eat snacks, remove any unwanted clothes (arm and leg warmers, jackets, caps) and place in blue bin. Ride.1230ish stop for lunch. Repeat procedure for SAG stops as above. Ride, looking for potential dinner options on way into town. 1500-1600 ( depending on mileage and winds) arrive hotel and check-in. Sign-in. Unload luggage trailer, find room, eat recovery meal, shower, find internet access, find Weather Channel on TV, take care of any bike maintenance issues. Read dry erase board in lobby to find out where breakfast is and what time, what time load is and where route rap is and what time. 1800 go to dinner and order whole right side of menu,,eat everthing in sight and then have dessert and still not feel full. 1900 Route rap. Detailed ride description by Mike with some extra cues thrown in. 1930 look for ice cream! 2000 call home, lay out clothes for tomorrow, stretch, watch the Weather Channel for next day. 2100-2130 bed.
That’s it in a nutshell, seems complicated yet it simple as well. Thanks for reading. Only 4 more days to the Atlantic! Jeff
