Cyclocross and Changes

We’re less than a month out from the start of Cyclocross clinics and not very far from the start of racing.

Expect some changes this year. Equipment? Yes. It’s the start of the disc brake era. Like ’em or not, they are here. We’ve already reviewed a pair of disc CX bikes: The Fuji here and the Specialized Crux (ongoing) here.

This weekend will give you an opportunity to give some cyclocross bikes a test yourself. Saturday 8/3 and Sunday 8/4 at Swope Park, the Raleigh test fleet arrives. Local racer and industry rep, Tony Stanislav says he will have a full quiver of the new line available to ride. The event is from 9a.m. to 3p.m. at Swope Park’s Lake of the Woods (note there are separate Facebook pages for both days).

Another change on the horizon, is the move of Family Bicycles from the current building on Wornall, to a fresh location across the street (and smack dab on the Trolley Trail). The folks at Family have sponsored several local CX races, and take a very practical approach to cycling as transportation as well as play. We’ll be reviewing the fresh Surly Straggler disc equipped, which Family will be featuring.

Clinics start early this year, with a kickoff at a new venue: Black Bob CX Clinic Followed up by the well attended KCOI/Blvd Clinics in Shawnee and a special advanced clinic hosted by the Source Endurance folks. Stay tuned.
