I believe the first time I met Brook in person was at a Masters Cyclocross World Championship in Belgium. Probably 2007. His camera was acting up in the cold and drizzle and sand of the Kempen and he asked for some advice from our team.
We had likely raced against each other at nationals in prior years. He was already considered an important figure in American Cyclocross.
We worked together on the Tour of Missouri shortly after. I was part of the media/marketing team for the Kansas City stage. Brook was with Medalist Sports, the organization producing the entire event. His professional guidance was part what made our local stage successful. He’s a passionate guy about cycling, particularly cyclo-cross, and a wonderful human.
Brook has also raced in our neck of the woods. Our winter ‘cross races have always provided tune-ups for Colorado (and beyond) based riders, heading for late season Nationals or Worlds.
When I found out Brook was bringing the UCI World Cyclocross Championship to Arkansas I was excited. I knew he was the guy to pull it off.
I also knew there would be answers to my questions when it was announced he was no longer the promoter. Here is the story.
