Boss Cross This Weekend (UPDATED)

This weekend's resurrection of the Boss Cross Cyclocross is brought to you by long time promoter Jeremy Haynes. Mr. Haynes says the venue for this weekend's race in Platte City has some good hills, so this one may be a lung buster. Read the Press Release (click on 'read more' below).

Don't forget the Wednesday Cyclocross practice in Shawnee is giving Herman Laird Park a one week rest. Join everyone in Riverside tomorrow. Details at the DeStad Cyclocross Van Kansas site. Oh yeah, Jeremy has a Myspace for the Boss Cross races here.

For Immediate Release:

“You are witnesses to the rebirth of Boss Cross Mark II, we hope you like our new direction.”

After a two-year hiatus, Kansas City Cyclocross stalwart Boss Cross is back, complete with new venues, new courses and new energy.  The series kicks off with a look at a brand new venue at Platte Ridge Park in Platte City and will finish up with a pre-Nationals tune-up at the classic English Landing Park in downtown Parkville.  Boss Cross gained notoriety (infamy?) for brutal courses, free flowing beer, and a prize list and raffle where all racers walk away stoked.  This year will be no exception.  The Platte Ridge course focuses on technical skills of the rider and features steep climbs, tight turns, bermed corners, and leg-wrenching run-ups, while the English Landing course offers sand pits, a wooden bridge and fast speeds. The two-race series is presented by Cycle City, the northland’s premier bike shop, who are continuing the tradition by supplying a huge prize list, including cyclocross essentials, wheels, tires and a frameset for raffle.

“We’re glad to be a part of this Kansas City classic series”, said Joe Fox, owner of Cycle City, “and this year is just a warm up for 2008!”  With the series focus on north of the river venues and courses, several local sponsors have joined Boss Cross and Cycle City to showcase what the northland has to offer.  Power Plant Brewery in downtown Parkville is continuing the tradition of the Boss Cross Beerfest by stepping in with locally handcrafted brews.  The Roasterie coffee will also be represented in brewed and bean form for the events as well. “After two years away from the series and cyclocross, I’ve come back to Boss Cross with an excitement and enthusiasm that I hope will be evident in the courses of the 2007 edition of Boss Cross.

Hopefully with the momentum of the KC cross scene, the series will be on every racer’s list of must-do races.” Pre-race activities start with carb-loading and pre-registration at the Power Plant Brewery in downtown Parkville on Thursday, October 18 from 7-9pm.  Cheap beer and cheap entry fees will be available to all attendees.  With the opportunity to register for one or both events, racers registering on Thursday night will receive $5 of entry fees.   Check www.localcycling.com or www.myspace.com/bosscrosscyclocrosskc for flyer, directions and up to date information!
