Tonight's cyclocross training at Herman Laird Park will have to be called off. The venue is the site of the upcoming Grote Prijs Shawnee Race, the final event of the Midwest Maxxis Cyclocross Series. However, the localcycling news team will lead the ride next week if things dry out. Several area riders will be using the GPShawnee as a final tuneup for the UCI Masters World Championships in Mol, Belgium. Area riders Anderson, Hansen, Jarzemkoski, Parker, Thomas and White will head overseas on January 17th. While in Mol, no doubt this group will sample some of the local culture (i.e. beer) and hang out with our friend Jos Daems. Mr. Daems has a very fun website with lots of cool photos from cycling events around the world as well as other glimpses of Belgian life (be sure to explore the link to 'extras').
For those not going to Europe, this final 'cross race of the season features Boulevard Beer (and bartenders from Shawnee's Belgium Club), a heated building to spectate in if the weather is wintry, lots of door prizes and great racing on a lengthend course through the village setting of Old Shawnee Town.
