This weekend is the Kansas Cyclocross Champs in Leavenworth. Here's a map for the slightly modified course from the earlier Vet Cross event. Click on the 'read more' below for Roger Harrison's review of the changes (and the upcoming events). The following week if you're not off to Nationals you can find a good local race near Wichita: Lake Afton Cx. During the holidays the Trekbicyclesofkc/localcycling.com team will continue Wednesday 'cross workouts at 6PM from the Trek Store. Expect a couple of 'training' races to pop up on the calendar, before the final event of the Maxxis Series, The Grote Prijs Shawnee. Two weeks later a number of area racers are off to Belgium for the UCI World Masters Cyclocross Championship.
The Lanterne Rouge Course Review
As I stood on Grand Avenue and watched the course designer, Mad Max Locke, run the course with my GARMIN 250, I shivered from the cold and the course he has designed. Attached is the map of the course, with directions to the site on the reverse from either I 70 or I 29.
This course is modified from the Veterans Cross, it has hills, switchbacks, sandpits, NO STAIRS. Alex's Stairway to Heaven has been replaced by Christopher's Sand Pile, a little more hard concrete to ride, and a new feature the Lanterne Rouge's Lap Pond has been added to the mix. It is going to be fun to watch, the weather looks good, but in case remember we have indoor areas for warm ups. Also, I will have a power washer available, weather permitting, for the clean up of your bike and you, if you want!!!! I would suggest that you bring a towel and soap to shower with, NOT outdoors! DUH! Denny Crain!
Joe, Damian, Chris, Charlie, Cliff, and me will be out at the course on Saturday and Sunday preparing this challenging course.
Photography is being provided by E Man of Parkville, that sly camera man, and financial supporter of all that is good in KC! Right E Man!
Ruta Maya Coffee provided by "Crazy" Brendan the proprietor and racer from Santa Fe Trails Bicycle and Coffee Shop. Brendan is going to be AWOL though, he has an engagement at Arrowhead!
Kansas Registration Guru, Margretta will be doing the registration with the assistance of G Man, the third party of the Les Trois Amigoes.
Food will be provided by the VFW.
Awards will be presented by the svelte but NOT eligible Anita.
Music, banter, and ridicule will be provided by ME!
I told my sensuous wife that my equipment could go away for a time and OUT POPS! MARK THOMAS's, Grote Prix cross race in January, soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, the saga continues. Come on out, bring the family, have a great time, if you miss the High School, you need a visual check, because if you miss my sign you must be blind.
Ho Ho Ho, See you soon! The Lanterne Rouge.
