| Let’s Ride! Steve was passionate about sharing the power of cycling, especially with kids. Over the years, he helped organize multiple bike fairs at elementary schools, always focused on getting more young people on bikes. Let’s Ride! continues that mission by removing barriers and creating access so more kids can experience the freedom and joy that come with riding. What Is Let’s Ride!? Let’s Ride! is a school-based program that provides second graders at Title I schools with their very own bicycle and helmet. Our goal is simple: remove barriers to movement and empower kids with a tool that supports physical health, independence, and joy. This program is built to meet kids where they are, partner with their schools and communities, and make cycling accessible to every child—not just those who already have access to gear, safe spaces, or the means to participate. How Let’s Ride! Works 1. School Partnership We partner directly with Title I schools to identify participating second-grade classrooms. Our team manages planning, equipment, and day-of operations, making participation easy for schools while ensuring every student is included. 2. Bikes & Equipment Every child has the opportunity to receive a brand-new bicycle and a properly-fitted helmet. Bikes are selected for durability and ease of use, and every student receives the same model for consistency and safety. 3. Take-Home Ownership Each student takes their bike home at the end of the day, giving them a tool for movement, outdoor play, and long-term health. How Donors & Partners Can Help Let’s Ride! is designed to scale. Community support helps make that possible. The program is launching in Lawrence, KS, where eight Title I elementary schools serve approximately 500 second graders. As support grows, the Foundation plans to expand into surrounding school districts and extend access to more students across the region. Ways to Support Let’s Ride! Program Support — $200 Level Illustrates the approximate cost to provide a bike and helmet for one student. Program Support — Classroom Scale (~$4,000) Represents the estimated cost to provide bikes and helmets for a full second-grade classroom (approximately 20 students). Program Support — School Scale (~$12,000) Represents the estimated cost to provide bikes and helmets for all second graders at a Title I elementary school (approximately 60 students). Launch Match To kick things off, all donations to the Steve Tilford Foundation are currently being matched dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. If you’ve been looking for a way to support the foundation, this is a good time to step in. All contributions support the Foundation’s general charitable work, including Let’s Ride! |
