Traditional Cross Country Racin’: Series Style
This a reminder of the dirt festivities occurring next weekend Sunday, June 4th, 2006 at Landahl Park Reserve in Independence. It’s final round of the 2006 HMBCS. The weather is warming and the riding is perfect. The trails are currently being groomed, as the growth season is rockin and rollin this year. All the info you need can be found below.
In addition to the racin’ on Sunday, there will be a Mountain Bike 101 clinic held on Saturday at the event site. The clinic is a prefect opportunity for those new to the sport to brush up on your ridin skills and learn some valuable tips and techniques. HMBCS #4:
WHEN: Sunday June 4th 2006. We race Rain or Shine.
WHERE: Landahl Park Reserve Independence, MO. Truman Road Trailhead.
DIRECTIONS:
Take I-70 either West from St. Louis or East from Kansas City until you reach 7 highway at Blue Springs. Turn North on 7-Hwy go approximately 4.0 miles until you reach Truman road (MO FF/E), turn East (right) for approximately 2.1 miles until you reach the William Landahl Park Reserve on the right side of the road. Turn in where you see the "Race Today" sign.

COURSE INFO for Sunday, June 4th:
General info: Landahl has fairly technical trails w/ rocks and mostly short-up climbs.

Sport/expert (ORANGE course):
Course—> Starts with a fast 1/4 mile section of double track, then a brisk singletrack climb up to and thru Dave’s Maze. Continue right for about 1/2 mile of double track north on the bean field. Two left turns at the end of the field and you are on the Family Trail heading south. Drop down Lunatic Lookout and enjoy a 1 mile jaunt on Scott’s Gun Barrel. Roll thru the Gravel Pit, then finish up with the Boulevard and a screaming double track descent back down to the event site.
Current conditions: —> perfect. The course is dry and supa fast.
Length—> 4.5 miles (apx)
Lap times—> if conditions stay the same, experts will be in the 25-30 minute range
Sport women= 2 laps
Clydesdale/Singlespeed/Sport men= 3 laps
Expert women= 3 laps

Beginner/first-timer (BLUE course)
Course—> Starts w/ apx 1 mile of flat double track followed by fast and twisty singletrack up Tasty Goodness. You’ll then be dumped out to another 1/2 mile of doubletrack. Then a left turn onto Will’s Wanderer for about 1.5 miles of sweeping fast/narrow singletrack. Next up is a bombing descent back down into the scout camp and short sprint thru the field.
Current conditions: —> perfect. The course is dry and supa fast.
Length—> 4.5 miles (apx)
Lap times—>if conditions stay the same, times will be in the 20-25 minute range.
