April 8th is the first Tuesday Night Worlds Training Criterium of the season. KC has a long history of mid-week training races, and the event has moved from time to time due to traffic or other location consideration.
The 2014 venue will be different than last year’s longish course on the far West side of town. The new location, just off Nall and 135th St, offers a more central location for many riders AND the possibility of a couple of layouts ranging from 900 meters to just over a kilometer (similar length to the Kansas Commerce Center track in the 90’s thru late 2000’s).
This is not a four corner ‘downtown’ crit. Some additional corners of varied radius and chicanes will test handling skills as well as pure speed. The location which will have minimum automobile traffic (hopefully effectively car-free) does have two small ‘speed bumps’. Neither are in the category of ‘road furniture’ that many races have to negotiate, but riders will be encouraged to use appropriate judgment.
