Devilish Fun

Start your multi-sport season off with a bang. That’s the bang of the starting gun at the 3rd Annual Devil’s Revenge Duathlon on Saturday, March 11, 2006. The always challenging Clinton Lake trails in Lawrence, Kansas will be the site for this weekends 1st round of the Midwest Fat Tire Duathlon Series.

The race features a distance short enough for that early-season race, yet challenging enough to test your fitness. The race starts with a 2 mile trail run on technical single track that includes stream crossings and several steep climbs.  Next up is the 10 mountain bike leg which will include a combination of single track, jeep roads and double track.  Last step is to run the same 2 mile course that you had so much fun on to begin with.   Take on the course alone or team up with a buddy and take on the course as a 2-person team.

last year’s event featured a record breaking turnout with race winner Jimmy Archer from Colorado taking the Men’s Elite victory and lions share of the cash payout.  He was closely followed by another Colorado resident Will Kelsey, our own local Xterra Champion Tige Lamb and 2005 Nebraska Cyclo-cross champion Darin Schlake.   On the female side Laura Szemplenski defended her 2004 title with Columbia’s Louis Walsh taking second and Emily Pastrovich the final podium spot in the Elite Women’s class.

Sunday is the 9th Annual Ride with the Devil Mountain Bike Race.  This season opener for the Midwest Fat Tire Championship Series is one of the most popular with the racers.  They just love the trails and the “Death Dogs” after the event.  At both events there are classes for all abilities including a Single Speed Challenge for Sunday’s MTB class.

So grab your bike and bring the family for a fun weekend of racing and outdoor activities.  Homemade soup and plenty of food on Saturday thanks to the “Girls of Cow Town Cycling”.  Event services provided by the Lantern Rouge Volunteer Group, The Wheel Cyclery and members of the Cow Town Cycling Team.
