Louisville’s UCI Cyclocross Championships finished with a schedule change for the Elites before the levees broke. The Masters racers that hung around to watch were treated to a great show, taking extra satisfaction in the knowledge they had competed in arguably much tougher conditions. Podiums, near-podiums, and of course some small disasters were part of the experience. Complete Masters World Championship Results here.
But back in KC, CX isn’t quite over. February 10th, is the final ‘sanctioned’ event of the season: Wintery Mix #2. Again held at Mission Farms, site of two earlier events. Following up will be a, shall we say “non-sanctioned” cyclocross themed “StreetCred” event (most likely Feb. 16th, watch for details). Our ‘hardcore’ friends say neither of these events should be missed.
Wintery Mix is part of a two-race series, so if you competed in the earlier event, you’re eligible for additional swag. Sponsor Jeff Williams of Elite Bicycles has arranged for some on site food. Here’s some promo:
“Chef Baldee’s Pizza (Mobile Pizza Kitchen) offers an Authentic New York-Style Thin Crust with a Spicy/Sweet Sauce patterned after a 50-year old family recipe. Everything is done right on the truck from making the dough with extra virgin olive oil, creating the sauce with Marsala Red Wine and 12 other ingredients, even baking the pizza in the impinger conveyor oven in less than 4 minutes! Each slice is $5.00, and the typical person could easily enjoy two slices–so don’t forget your $10 bill! Drinks will also be available for purchase for $1.00 each (12 ounce Coca-Cola, A&W Root Beer, bottled water). If you find The Chef on facebook at www.facebook.com/baldeespizza you can see plenty of pictures and a menu. On race day there will likely be 3 options to choose from–Simple Cheese, Pepperoni, and Garden Veggie Deluxe. Try A Slice–You’ll Be Glad You Did!”
The Mission Farms course itself has been getting a bit of grooming too. Mark Breeding of Team Localcycling has been instrumental in the some of the course work. The ditch crossing has been tweaked and some additional dirt has been added to reduce the likelyhood of punctures on that area of the course. Race promoter Mark Thomas also extends this offer, “If you medaled at Masters Worlds Cyclocross, come race for free!” Bring your medal for a possible photo op.
