The Future And Radcross

We in the localcycling.com newsroom often joke that the “future of bicycle racing is Masters 60+”

Family-Shawnee Rescue Radcross would like to help change that cynical view. At the November 20th cyclocross event, Theresa of Family Bicycles has organized an event for the most junior of juniors: A Strider Cup.

If you have (or know of) a toddler that has one of those cute crankless bicycles, here’s the chance for them to test thier skills on an appropriate size course. The basic rules are here:

 1. The track should be designed such that young riders may ride the track unassisted.

2. Riders must complete the course unassisted to qualify for first, second, or third place awards.

3. Riders should be separated by age (2, 3, 4, 5) and separate races held for each age. If there aren’t at least three riders in an age group, ages 2 and 3 may be grouped together and ages 4 and 5 may be grouped together.

4. Riders must ride manufactured 12″ balance bikes and not converted pedal bikes.

5. All riders must wear an approved helmet.

6. Long pants, long sleeves, elbow pads, knee pads, and gloves are recommended.

Refer to the Family-Shawnee Rescue Radcross flyer for start times of the full day of racing. Give Teresa at Family Bicycles a shout for additional Strider Cup details.
