Brent Hugh, of Mobikefed, sends this cool news from the Pleasant Hills Times:
The Pleasant Hill City Council last week approved a contract with a Kansas City
consulting firm for design and engineering work on a walking and bicycle trail
from downtown Pleasant Hill to the City Lake. . . .
Pleasant Hill was awarded a $388,000 grant this summer to build the 3-mile trail
to the City Lake. The grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation is
funded through the Federal Transportation Enhancement Program. . . .
Eventually, the trail will link Pleasant Hill with the Metro Green system of
interconnected bicycle and walking trails being built throughout the Kansas City
metropolitan area.
It could also provide an essential link between the Metro Green trail system and
the Katy Trail across Missouri. Plans are underway to extend the Katy Trail from
Windsor into the Kansas City metropolitan area across the old Rock Island
Railroad right-of-way that runs through Pleasant Hill.
Pleasant Hills trail to the City Lake is also a major component of a new trail
master plan being developed by the Pleasant Hill Parks & Recreation Board that
calls for new developments to set aside corridors for a netof interconnected
bicycle and walking trails around the community
