Steve Tilford (Verge/Shimano) climbed to the top spot on the Men’s Masters 45-49 Podium at the U.S. Cyclocross National Championship in Providence, Rhode Island. His nearest competitor finished more than two minutes later. Dale Knapp, who raced Steve closely in similar snowy conditions at Stoll Park, in Overland Park Kansas at the 2000 Nationals and SuperCup weekend topped the Men’s 40 – 44 podium. Watch for Tilford to race well again in the Elite field tomorrow, as well as in the Liberty Cup on Sunday.
Catherine Walberg (Team Kenda Tire) also earned a podium spot, finishing fourth in the Women’s Masters 40 – 44 Race. Catherine will also contest the elite race, joined by local teammate Jennifer Tilley.
The rest of the Kansas City delegation didn’t fare as well today. Brian Williams crossed the line in 56th place in the Men’s 40-44 race, and Bill Anderson was 65th in the Men’s 45-49 field. Bill Marshall and Trudi Rebsamen were unable to finish their races, nor was Maryann Martinez, who traveled with the Slimen und Grossen News Team from Mol, Belgium to the World Cup Race in Hoogerheide, Netherlands last January.
Expect more podium finishes in the days to come.
