Chek out Saturday’s “Hammer Rider”: Info from the SKC Folks
“We’re excited to announce that the BikeSource Hammer Ride is returning to action
and with a new & improved look for the 2009
season.
If you’re not familiar with it, this is a ride hosted by the SKC and KCOI/Boulevard
teams every Saturday during the racing season, and is set up to simulate race
conditions throughout much of the ride. It is a great opportunity to get tuned in to
road racing and prepare both physically and tactically for the long season ahead.
The following exciting changes have been instituted this year to enhance the ride
and allow it to suit the training needs of more people than before:
– Last year’s “A” route to Spring Hill and Hillsdale (currently under construction)
is being replaced with an enjoyable “East” route that loops around Raintree Lake
(long version) and/or Longview Lake (short version). This is an out-and-back route
with a loop at the end so you have the flexibility of making it whatever length you
want (e.g., if you want a thirty mile ride just turn around after fifteen miles and
head back to BikeSource.)
– The start time is being fixed at 8:00 a.m. throughout the season for consistency.
– Riders will be split into two groups (an “A” group and a “B” group) at the start
whenever there’s enough demand. This is being added to draw greater variety of
fitness levels to the ride, to accommodate those who may be intimidated by the
faster pace, and to provide riders who get dropped from the “A” group with a good
fallback option other than riding the rest of the route solo. In order for this to
work we will be relying on kcbike.com members who may not have joined the ride in
the past to start incorporating it into their training plans. The more the merrier
so please make it out whenever your Saturday morning is free. KCBike.com membership
is not required so spread the word throughout the cycling community!
See the official flyer for all the juicy details including maps and directions. It
has been posted to the kcbike.com main page and has also been listed on the JCBC
calendar. Here’s a quick link: http://kcbike.com/doc/Hammer_Ride.pdf
