Local cycling clothing manufacturer Hincapie Sports sponsors a national team. They've sent this update:
"The Hincapie Barkley Development Team had another good weekend of racing with several riders getting some top-10 finishes. Many of our riders are preparing for the junior and U23 national championships coming up in California the second week of August, so this is an ideal time to take a short breather.
Dave Hutton and Steve Colavito competed in the Georgia Games last weekend with some good results. Hutton rode aggressively in the Cat 2 road race on Saturday, initiating several moves before settling in with the second selection. He was animated and managed to finish a solid 7th place on the day. Colavito joined Hutton for the rain-soaked criterium on Sunday. The pair showed their Hincapie Barkley jerseys off in several breakaway attempts, but the field was determined to have a group finish. Hutton led out his teammate for the line, and Colavito narrowly missed the podium with a great 4th place finish in the sprint. Hutton held on for 6th place. Great job boys.
Angela Austin raced the Piedmont Triad women's open road race in Lexington, NC last weekend. Feeling confident, she made several solo moves off the front of the group in an attempt to form a breakaway. She's been developing well and getting more fit every week, so this was a great step on her learning curve. She attacked, recovered and attacked again. She finished strong with the main group against many women with much more experience than her. Good job on a great effort. We're proud of you.
Chris Butler has been turning heads in Europe with his performances in some very difficult races. He crashed on a round about last week and had to spend a little time healing his wounds. He showed what he's made of by jumping back into the saddle for one of the hardest races he says he's ever done. He performed better than the majority of his teammates, and he's very pleased with his fitness. Great job Chris.
I will be accompanying AJ Meyer and Ty Magner at the Tour de L'Abitibi in Val d'Or Canada next weekend. This is a prestigious UCI international stage race for juniors that has been going on for 40 years. Rich Hincapie raced in the Tour de L'Abitibi when he was a junior, so this race has some serious history. Meyer and Magner will be part of a composite team in partnership with the Florida Velo Development Team, and I will be assisting with the organization and logistics of the trip. The guys are riding very well, so they will be doing their best to win a little Canadian glory in the Great White North. As always we will let you know how things work out for them.
Thanks for all the support and encouragement. We couldn't do this without all of you.
