Coming up: CYCLOCROSS!

American cycling icon, Steve Tilford, of Topeka has passed away in an automobile crash.

We'll update on services as we learn.

There are many stories and memories of his lengthy career. Steve was a lover of all cycling disciplines.

Here's some info on his mountain bike accomplishments.

Road events coming up:

On 4/8 and 4/9 it's the Jayhawk Classic around Lawrence with a Saturday Road Race and a Sunday Criterium. NOT just Collegiate categories: FLYER

Sunday 4/9 is the Bazaar Road Race. It doesn't get any more Belgian than this one. Cross winds, sometimes wet, cattle trucks. Be a Flahute: FLYER

Way earlier than usual, the Kansas City Corporate Challenge Bike Race (a short 3 mile Time Trial) will be held on the Kansas Speedway 4/11 and 4/12. The largest bike race by participation in the area.

The LifeBalance Gardner Time Trials, a monthly test against the clock kickoff on 4/13. FLYER

4/22 features the Bruce Edwards/Glenda Taylor Memorial Time Trial. Roger Harrison puts this one on with lots of categories and special awards: FLYER

While things have been wet local for the last few days, the event did NOT turn into the major hike 'n bike that some feared.

RESULTS for Gravelleurs Raid (and the Grinder).

Roger Harrison covers all the disciplines: PHOTOS

The last time we had a Republican Governor we had a major professional bicycle race, The Tour of Missouri.

Now that those political winds have shifted again, by an executive order (and working with BlowingWind Sports), Governor Eric "Greeting" Greitens has announced a revived Tour de Trump for 2018. For those of you old enough to remember, the original Trump Tour was in 1989 and morphed into the Tour de Pont. This was a Big League race with so much prize money, so much.

While not a lot of concrete details have been released about the route, the press release indicated that the UCI has granted the race Pro Tour status, and in a 'nod and a wink' to American Flyers has already sent an invitation to Katusha Alpecin.

The Gravelleurs Raid is a 100 mile gravel road bicycle race this weekend. Fast becoming one of the coolest gravel events in our region. A healthy cash payout and a challenging course (with wet roads mabye more so this year).

While the entries are closed, you can follow along with updates here, or join the spectators in Lawrence on Saturday Arpil 1st.

One last Spring Fling for the year on Saturday 4/1 (no foolin').
