At Sunday's Tour of Kansas City Criterium an athlete from the St. Louis area was fatally injured. Here is the statement from the staff of the event:

Lots of of cycling events in the metro this week!
Saturday and Sunday: Tour of Kansas City
Wow, it's that time of the year again. This historic event offers great racing and spectating:
"The Tour of Kansas City has been a part of the local landscape for 54 years. It is the longest running bike race west of the Mississippi. The race weekend consists of a time trial, circuit race, and criterium in an omnium format with male and female champions crowned. The Prologue Time Trial is back alongside the iconic Cliff Drive Circuit Race, and the well received Crossroads Criterium will once again serve as the final event of the weekend."
For Sunday's Criterium the Localcycling.com news team and Boulevard Brewing will be set up inside Clubhouse at 504 E. 18th with a view party. $10 donation for plenty of great beer and an indoor place to hangout with snacks.
The first running of the Olathe Criterium presented by Midwest Velo brought a fresh road event to the metro calendar. Good fields and smooth production.
We'd like to think that this event will become a staple on the summer calendar.
Here's a fresh Gravel event that touts itself as a National Championship coming up on June 24th. Starting just outside of Lawrence.
With a World Championship just up the road in Nebraska, this would be the logical preparation.
Information here: Gravel National Championship 2017
PLUS the event is needing some volunteers: "We need a few volunteers for the upcoming USECF Gravel Grinder National Championship in Lawrence, Kansas on June 24, 2017.
All volunteers will receive the same swag package provided to participants which includes an event shirt, custom stainless steel event pint glass, limited addition event poster and other event swag. Volunteers will also receive entry into the post race raffle and our eternal gratitude."
June 17th brings a fresh Criterium to the metro. A fast and flat course and a large prize list (including primes) are featured.
